In East Africa, Makerere University is ranked the best University and the oldest in the region. Makerere University accounts for 3% of all publications from the African Continent. Makerere University has almost 90% of all publications from Uganda and has increased research output per college. Uganda ranks 5th among the African countries with high Impact research according to Scopus. Makerere University is a continental leader in agricultural sciences, crop research, educational and HIV research. It hosts regional graduate training programs in plant breeding and in agricultural and applied economics.
