The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the African Union Commission (AU) have published the first Framework for Boosting Intra-African Trade in Agricultural Commodities and Services. It aims to promote programmes and actions to expand trade among the AU Member States within the recently established African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The Framework for Boosting Intra-African Trade in Agricultural Commodities and Services was jointly developed by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations (FAO) Regional Office for Africa (RAF). It supports closer regional economic integration and the removal of barriers to unlock
the potential of the agricultural sector to contribute to sustainable and inclusive growth for Africa’s rapidly growing and urbanising population. The establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) further reinforces the gains achieved in regional integration and opens new market opportunities for farmers and other economic operators.
