Akaki, Nifas Silk Food Hub is located in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and its cultivation will be based on fresh vegetables and legumes that will be worked by the peri-urban hydroponics farming technique.
Gardening systems for vegetables (cabbage, cauliflower, tomato) and legumes (faba bean, peas, soybean) will also be implemented, with the aim of strengthening the sustainability and productivity of rural and peri-urban, individual and community gardens equipped with micro-irrigation system (including both soilless system and on soil horticulture system), while improving their nutrition performances and access to market. Depending on local conditions and priorities, new adapted hydroponic and drip irrigation systems promoting the principles of the circular economy will be implemented and tested.
